Sistema Educativo y Salud Mental: Una Asociación Relevante en Promoción y Prevención para Adolescentes Escolarizados

Resumen

Las escuelas tienen una actuación significativa en la prevención y promoción en salud mental e intervención temprana para estudiantes considerados en riesgo. Esta investigación teórica tuvo como objetivo conocer la salud mental en el contexto escolar e identificar como el sistema educativo se vincula con la salud mental y cumple un rol relevante en la promoción y prevención en adolescentes escolarizados. Se realizó una revisión de tipo descriptiva de la literatura con el fin de extraer la información necesaria qué atañe al objetivo de esta investigación. Los resultados indican que existe consenso que los programas de salud mental realizados en la escuela son convenientes pues favorecen el desarrollo de habilidades socioemocionales que constituyen factores protectores. Como conclusión, las instituciones educativas requieren ser visualizadas como una entidad que podría satisfacer las necesidades que se advierten de manera urgente en prevención y promoción en salud mental en adolescentes escolarizados.

Abstract

Schools have a significant role in prevention and promotion in mental health and early intervention for students considered at risk. The aim of this theoretical research was to know mental health in the school setting and identify how the educational system is linked to mental health and plays a relevant role in the promotion and prevention of schooled adolescents. A descriptive review of the literature was conducted in order to extract the necessary information concerning the aim of the study. The results show that there is a consensus that the mental health programs conducted at schools are convenient because they favor the development of social-emotional skills that constitute protective factors. In conclusion, educational institutions need to be visualized as an entity that could satisfy the needs that are urgently noticed in prevention and promotion in mental health in schooled adolescents.
