CAMBIOS CORPORALES DEBIDO AL TRATAMIENTO DEL CÁNCER DE MAMA EN MUJERES Y SUS EFECTOS EN LA AUTOESTIMA

Resumen

El cáncer de mama es considerado un importante tema de salud pública. Actualmente, constituye una gran amenaza a la salud en mujeres debido a que su mortalidad es elevada y porque repercute en diferentes dimensiones de la persona. El objetivo de este estudio consiste en identificar los principales cambios a nivel corporal de mujeres debido al tratamiento por cáncer mamario y analizar cómo dichos cambios pueden afectar su autoestima. Para dicho propósito se realizó una revisión sistemática de artículos –publicados entre los años 2007 y 2017– en las bases de datos EBSCOhost, SciELO, Google Scholar, Pubmed, Dialnet y Redalyc. Según los estudios revisados, y los hallazgos que de ellos se obtienen, se puede referir que los cambios en la imagen corporal de la mujer producto de los tratamientos convencionales para cáncer de mama afectan de forma negativa su autoestima. Sin embargo, existen estrategias para disminuir estos efectos secundarios al tratamiento oncológico.

Abstract

Breast cancer is considered an important public health issue. Currently, it is a major threat to health in women because its mortality is high and because it affects different dimensions of the person. The objective of this study is to identify the main changes in women's body level due to treatment for breast cancer and analyze how these changes can affect their self-esteem. For this purpose, a systematic review of articles – published between 2007 and 2017– was carried out in the EBSCOhost, SciELO, Google Scholar, Pubmed, Dialnet and Redalyc databases. According to the studies reviewed and the findings that are obtained from them, it can be said that changes in the body image of women as a result of conventional treatments for breast cancer negatively affect their self-esteem. However, there are strategies to reduce these side effects of oncological treatment.
