Abstract

This work is based on the approach proposed by Menendez (1990) around the process of alcohol, and his critical review of biomedical reductionism that has dominated the conceptualization around the harmful use of alcohol. Then are discussed the professional conceptions about the harmful use of alcohol and its effects on the practice on the health care system. It will be showed in the research the adopted methodology, area and population covered. The main purpose of this research was relieving concepts of professionals working in primary care about alcohol consumption. Finally, after describing the main findings, it will be exposed the fundamental considerations that should be taken to promote greater display of harmful drinking among those working in primary care, to encourage more timely interventions and establishing more effective prevention.
